The photography of George Murphy draws upon a diverse creative history. It is influenced by his strong interest in both the arts and sciences, and a passion for the natural world. Murphy has worked as an illustrator, graphic designer, digital effects artist and filmmaker; but even when the demands of Murphy's career as a digital film artist and Visual Effects Supervisor have superseded his photographic efforts, Murphy explains, the very personal process that is photography has always been at the heart of his drive to create imagery. "
While Murphy's work in the
motion picture and television industries have made him an expert on computer graphics and digital image manipulation, it has also made him value, more than ever, the journalistic integrity of pure editorial photography. "As a photographer, there are few things in life that match the rush one gets from succesfully making a powerful image of an elusive event or moment. For me, the thrill of revealling that very real thing that happened in front of my camera, is unique."
Murphy confesses that despite early sucesses pursuing commercial and editorial photography work, for the past twenty years it has been the motion picture and television industries that have dominated his career. But they have also afforded him the opportunity to collaborate on set with leading cinematographers and directors in the pursuit of creating great imagery; and in his role as a Visual Effects Supervisor, Murphy has become quite comfortable directing talent and crews under pressure. All of these experiences have enhanced the diversity of Murphy's skills as a photographer able to handle a wide range of photographic subjects.
